Empire season 3, episode 4, “Cupid Kills” featured all the amazing music, family drama and struggle for power we love about the series. Andre and Lucious are working together again, Angelo is winning Cookie’s heart and Jamal is focusing on his music. Hakeem gets ahead of himself but that bond we mentioned between Andre and Lucious saves the day.

Lucious and Andre reunite
The episode starts with Andre and Lucious visiting Shine with plans to sign Nessa. Andre can’t keep his eyes off of Nessa and she’s feeling him as well. The visit doesn’t go as planned. Andre and Lucious find other record label executives at Shine’s studio. There’s a bidding war for Nessa and Lucious is furious.

Angelo takes Cookie to her first opera
Angelo shows up to Empire with three kids that sing Cookie a song. He then invites her to the opera which turns out to be a charity event. Cookie enjoys the song the opera singer, Gia, performs.

Hakeem helps sign Nessa
Hakeem convinces Lucious to let him help Andre sign Nessa. Hakeem has a party at his crib and they air the event on Empire’s live streaming service. Shine convinces Hakeem to write Empire’s offer on a napkin. After Hakeem writes “$2.5 million” on the napkin, Shine shows the offer to the world, increasing Nessa’s value in the bidding war.

Lucious and Andre force Shine’s hand
Andre tells Nessa that Shine is taking advantage of her because Shine owes her money from her brother’s death. When Shine finds out that Andre’s been spilling his tea, he isn’t happy. He shows up at Lucious’ office and punches Andre in the face. Andre and Lucious beat up Shine and force him to sign the contract.

Jamal’s #FreeFreda campaign works
Jamal visits Freda and sees that she has been beaten up. He later finds out that Lucious set up the beating. Lucious wanted her out of prison to make sure she wouldn’t snitch on him for killing her father. Jamal is able to convince judge to free Freda.

Tiana claps back
Inspired by the opera singer Angelo takes her to see, Cookie samples the opera song for Tiana’s new hit, “Me.”

Andre hooks up with Nessa and…Rhonda!?
Nessa visits Andre at his office and they hook up. Andre stops and starts hallucinating Rhonda. Instead of being upset, Rhonda’s ghost encourages Andre to keep hooking up with Nessa.
