Who Plays Lucious Mom On Empire?

There’s nothing like a good mother! This article discusses an element of the Empire TV show that fans may find confusing.  Two actresses have played Lucious’ mother on Empire: Kelly Rowland and Leslie Uggams.

Leslie Uggams has played Leah Walker in the show’s most recent episodes.  While Cookie attempts to calm Lucious down about his mother, the show’s leading man knows better.
Kelly Rowland played the younger Leah Walker that we all thought committed suicide:

The show continues to explore issues that are typically ignored in African American communities.  The show’s first season did so through Trai Byers’ character, Andre.  The show’s current season has provided a more complete look into the lives of individual’s with mental disorders.
While many fans race to create memes involving some of the show’s intense content, it’s important for us to accept some of the lessons we are learning from Fox’s hip-hop series.  It may be difficult to admit it, but Cookie Lyon was mistaken when she suggested that certain conditions were “white people problems”.
The African American community must make seeing doctors and specialists on a regular basis a priority as too many common issues continue to be ignored.  It’s easy to put off our problems and most of the time we decide they need to be fixed when it’s too late! Do it today, because tomorrow is not promised!

Leah Walker On Empire

Leslie Uggams plays Leah Walker on Fox’s hip-hop series Empire.  Walker is Lucious Lyon’s mother who he lied about.

Lucious’ real name is Dwight and there is something significant about it unfolding in every episode of the show.  Every time she calls Lucious “Dwight”, he corrects her yet she continues to make the mistake.

In the show’s first season, Lucious came clean about his real name, “Dwight Walker”.  When his mother is around he refused to accept the name.
Walker is responsible for the song “Chasing The Sky” which has been called the Lyon family anthem.  When Lucious introduces the track to his family he explains that he wants honesty.
Hakeem couldn’t wait to share his feelings on the verse and Jamal provided his beautiful vocals.  For those who had any doubts about Terrence Howard’s voice, need he say more?
Although he is not featured on the song, Andre Lyon sums up how special the track is when he introduces it.  Cookie and Lucious’ oldest son explains that family may not be perfect but it’s all we got.
Another Wednesday, another great episode of the show! Mashable reports that the hip-hop series is affecting the TV business in more ways than we realize.  The show has been highlighting diversity behind-the-scenes.

How Old Is Leslie Uggams
After seeing her on Empire many people wondered about Leslie Uggams’ age.  Uggams was born on May 25, 1943 and is currently 72 years old.
Leslie Uggams’ Empire appearance is far from her first major acting role.  Many people remember Leslie Uggams as Kizzy Reynolds in the 1977 film Roots.  In an amazing article by AARP, Uggams and Louis Gossett, Jr. discuss how Roots changed TV forever.  The following list of Leslie Uggams’ movies and TV shows includes some of her most notable roles.

New Empire Logo Fox

Introducing the new Empire logo.  Fox’s hip-hop series Empire has a new logo thanks to Hakeem Lyon:

If you are not enjoying this season of Empire we aren’t sure what the show can do to please you.  From Flip Flop to Hakeem as the show’s new head man in charge.  Our favorite part of the show’s most recent episode was Hakeem’s sex tape with Camilla!

Along with all the drama typically included on the show, Hakeem has made a major change to Empire’s branding.  We wonder if Empire’s logo will remain Hakeem face for the rest of this season.

The show’s original logo features Lucious Lyon whereas the show’s new logo features Hakeem Lyon.  Hakeem is truly maturing as proven by the song he made with Jamal dedicated to their brother Andre who lost his unborn child.

The episode also featured Camilla killing Mimi.  Lucious delivers an amazing final speech at the end of the episode to force Camilla to commit suicide.
Now that Camilla is gone how do you think Hakeem will handle the company? Will Camilla being gone bring the Lyons back together? Overall, what did you think about the episode?

Hakeem x Camilla vs. Hakeem x Lucious vs. Hakeem x Cookie

Who Should Manage Hakeem’s Career?
Hakeem does not lack any talent and every 40+ year old in Empire wants to join forces with the future of Empire.  Who will Hakeem be most successful with? Which character’s vision does Hakeem make his best music with?

Hakeem x Camilla
In the latest episode of Empire, “Sins of the Father” Camilla showed that she may bring the most out of Hakeem.  SOHH.com explains that Camilla tells Hakeem to keep his eye on the prize because they are a team dubbing the new album “Anthony & Cleopatra”.  Hakeem was able to show his lighter side and seemed to enjoy singing on the track:

Hakeem x Lucious
Lucious grew up in the streets.  He wants Hakeem’s music to reflect the serious conditions of the streets and he wants Hakeem to remain a rapper as opposed to a crossover artist.  Lucious is proud of Hakeem when Hakeem shows anger in his rhymes:

Hakeem x Cookie
Cookie believes that Hakeem has to rap from his heart as opposed to claiming the streets that he did not grow up in.  She knows that Hakeem creates his best work when it is real.  Unlike Lucious, Cookie does not mind Hakeem collaborating with his brother, Jamal:
