Tupac Sister – Sekyiwa Shakur

Tupac Shakur’s half sister, Sekyiwa “Set” Shakur is played by Raven Symone Ferrell in Tupac’s biopic, All Eyez On Me.  Sekyiwa was born on October 3, 1975, two years after Tupac.  She is the daughter of Afeni Shakur and Tupac’s stepfather, Dr. Mutulu Shakur.  Her father is currently serving a 60-year prison sentence for his role in the 1981 Brinks bank robbery.

Tupac Used Acting To Shelter Sekyiwa

In the video at the end of this article, Sekyiwa explains that her family was homeless in New York when she was 9 and Tupac was 12.  Tupac landed a gig as Travis in Raisin In The Sun at The Apollo so they would have food and shelter during the day.

When Tupac and Sekyiwa couldn’t us The Apollo theatre for shelter, their mother would take them to the movies and leave them there until she got off work.  This explains Tupac’s love for acting.

Bipolar Disorder And Depression

Sekyiwa’s life has been a rollercoaster.  When she was 12, her father was sentenced to 60-years in prison.  We all took Tupac’s death hard but the rapper was Set’s big brother that she loved dearly.  In 2015, her mother passed away.  These tragedies explain why Sekyiwa has struggled with bipolar disorder and depression.

The pic above Sekyiwa and her siblings her standing.  Sekyiwa has a half-sister and three half-brothers on her father’s side.  Sekyiwa and E.D.I. Mean from the Outlawz (Michael Greenridge) have two children.  They are kneeling in the pic.  Tupac, E.D.I. and several others formed the Outlawz in 1995.  The group is best known for their 1996 Biggie diss track, “Hit Em Up.”

Rayven Symone Ferrell plays Sekyiwa in All Eyez On Me


Set is portrayed by actress Rayven Symone Ferrell in All Eyez On Me.  She was born on September 2, 1995 and named after Raven-Symone.  She attended Kennesaw State University where she majored in Communications.  Ferrell recently appeared in an episode of Greenleaf and she played Rachel in Star.
