Empire is in its third season and Jussie Smollett is the show's breakout star.  While everyone loves Cookie, Taraji P. Henson is an experienced actress while Jussie is just getting started.  Empire's music is a critical part of its success therefore Fox wouldn't let the show's writers kill off characters like Jamal or Hakeem.
